If you do not take any medications, try to avoid any dangerous over-the-counter medications such as those containing alcohol, aspirin, or nonsteroidal antiinflammatories (NSAIDs). Many medications are safe to take before and during a pregnancy but some are not. Some are teratogenic or can cause birth defects. If you take medications, let your health care provider know that you are trying to get pregnant. Some over the counter medications, herbal remedies, and natural medications are unsafe in pregnancy.
